We hold social meetings the 3rd Sunday of every month and have technical meetings on the first Sunday.
Social meetings are held at restaurants on a rotating (random, really) basis. Folks gather at 1:00PM to chat about Linux (and other computery topics), help each other out and relax after a week's work. Social meetings are a great place to meet LUG members or seek help for a Linux problem.
Our technical meetings have covered a variety of topics, from networking to programming languages to Linux firewalls. Presenters usually have significant background in their chosen topic, though we gladly accept presentation offers from anyone who's interested. Time is always reserved for questions, so feel free to come and learn! We are currently looking for a permanent home for the presentations. Since moving them to Saturday, our old location is no longer available. The meeting on February 6th will be at the Verona Public Library. The March meeting may also be there, but please look at the list archives to make sure that does not change. We apologize for the inconvenience.
All meetings and details (like time, place, etc) are announced in advance on the Mailing_List.
Meeting Locations
The previous meeting locations are below. They are kept here in case we decide to use those locations again. The social meetings now are only a rotating location and will be announced on the mailing list and posted at http://web608.org/madlug. The technical meetings are still looking for a new location, with potentially ones including MATC or the UW Computer Science building. We will note the change here when it is confirmed.
ITT Technical Institute
ITT is centrally located (Google map, OpenStreetMap) (just on the other side of the Beltline from the Alliant Energy Center). We meet in the Theory 1 room. ITT information page.
UW Memorial Union
Formerly, our Friday social meetings were held at the UW Memorial Union, in the "Lakefront" cafe/grill (enter the front of the building, go a bit right, then straight back). Food and drink are available, as is wireless access for UW students and faculty.
This map shows the first floor of the Memorial Union; the Lakefront Cafe is in the upper right corner. We are usually in, or around, the back corner of the room. Hope to see you there.
There have been a couple instances when the Memorial Union was not available and we had to change meeting locations at the last minute. If this is the case, head up to Fair Trade Coffee on 418 State St. It's a few blocks East of the Memorial Union.
UW High Energy Physics (Chamberlin Hall)
Formerly, we often held presentations in the High Energy Physics conference room in Chamberlin Hall, 1150 University Ave. The conference room is on the fourth floor in room 4274, next to the department office. Enter the building on the north side (near Sterling hall) and simply head up to the fourth floor -- the conference room is the sixth door on the right. University parking is available near Chamberlin Hall, but it might be simpler to park downtown and walk. Wireless access will be provided.
UW Computer Science Building
We also held presentations at the UW Computer Science Building at 1210 W. Dayton St (directions, map). We usually meet in a room on the main floor that is easy to find if you enter from Dayton Street. The room for the meeting is given in the meeting agenda. Note that you need to be careful looking for parking in this area; if you park in the wrong location, you will get towed.

General Directions
From the east (e.g. East Towne), come in on East Washington or Gorham. If you're on East Washington, at some point you'll want to go right (before the Capitol) and get on Gorham, because it will make *everything* easier. Once Gorham becomes University (a block or two past State Street), go until Frances or Lake, and take a right. Parking ramps are right there.
From the south side of town (e.g. from the Beltline) take Park Street north. Either go straight past Johnson and continue to the lake (and park at Helen C. White), or turn right on Johnson and go a few blocks *either* to Lake Street or to Frances, and take a left. There are parking ramps right there (or you can go an extra block or so and park at ramps closer to State Street).
From the west (e.g. West Towne), come in on University (and then Campus - same road, different name), continue on Johnson until *either* Park *or* Lake *or* Frances. 1) Park - take a left, go until the lake, basically, and at the union go left into the underground parking at Helen C. White. 2) and 3) take a left, and either go into the parking ramp right there, or go 1 (or 1 1/2) blocks to the Lake Street or the Francis Street ramp, which will let you get out basically at State Street, making it a short walk to Memorial Union.
For more information, see the Union's parking page.
